The Edmund Rice Chapel with its circular shape sits dramatically on the hill of Mount Sion.
Inside is the tomb of Blessed Edmund Rice with his name etched in Ogham, the ancient Irish alphabet. Visitors are welcome to pray and reflect. They can also just sit and admire the wonderful panoramic views of Waterford city below.
The chapel plays host to various denominations. There are also regular Taizé prayer services, when, with the help of the Waterford Peace Choir, the chapel comes alive with music and singing.
Just outside, between the chapel and monastery, is the Peace Garden, a small oasis with seasonal flowers, bench seating, cosmic walk and Stations of the Cross. It’s a quiet space where people can take time out of their busy lives to sit and be still.
We can take bookings for masses on Thursday evenings only. Please contact Reception 051-874390 for more information.
