Tuesday 3rd May
Opening Night, mass celebrated by Fr Robert Grant
The guest speaker will be Ms. Monica Reilly. Monica is a member of the Christian Brothers Spirituality Group, and has been involved in giving Retreats to the Brothers for many years. She has also been deeply involved in Brothers’ projects in deprived areas of Dublin. She will speak about Edmund Rice’s influence on her life and ministry.
The choir on Tuesday will be the Cathedral Vigil choir led by Caroline Reid-O’Brien.
Wednesday 4th May
Retreat Session with the Edmund Rice Camp Leaders
The Edmund Rice Camp Leaders based here in Mount Sion will lead a Retreat session. Three of them went to India last summer. They will recount their experiences there and the impression it made on them. They will tell of how Edmund Rice inspired them to get involved in the Edmund Rice Camps and how their experience leading the camps has given them fresh inspiration to help children who need their support.
Thursday 5th May
The Feast of Blessed Edmund Rice, mass celebrated by Fr Patrick Duffy.
On Thursday May 5th (The Feast of Blessed Edmund) Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Patrick Duffy of the Ferns Diocese and based in Ferns. Fr. Duffy, who is from Dublin, spent some of his early adult life here in Mount Sion as a Christian Brother teaching in the Manor CBS. He left the Brothers before Final Profession, later married, and became a father, later a grand-father. When his wife died he became a priest in Ferns.
The guest speaker on this evening is Dr Donal Blake, a Christian Brother based in Dublin. He too spent some time in Mount Sion. Donal served for years in the Brothers’ Headquarters in Rome as Postulator for the cause of Edmund Rice. He has widely written on Edmund’s life, but his talk will focus on his experience of Edmund’s influence on his personal life.
The Edmund Rice Choral and Musical Society will sing at this Mass.
Friday 6th May
Taizé Prayer evening with the Island of Ireland Peace Choir and the High Hopes Choir.
Friday May 6th is a first Friday and we will have our usual Taizé Prayer evening with the Island of Ireland Peace Choir. They will be joined by some members of the High Hopes Choir who will give us an insight into the realities of Homelessness.
